How To Use Your Own Photos as Your Computer Desktop Background

Are you a budding photographer who has just captured a visually striking image? Or are you a working mom who doesn’t want to keep her eyes off her kids? If you are any of the two or you simply want to display a personal photo on the computer, you can make any photo of your choice as the desktop background. Now your desktop background is not just a meaningless image, but also a photo from which you can draw inspiration, joy, and motivation. If you don’t know how to turn a photo into a desktop background, we will show you the different ways to do this.

* Access Control Panel. Begin by pressing the Start button. Then click Control Panel. Look for the Display icon and click it. The Display Properties window will show up. Click the Desktop tab. Now, choose a personal photo by clicking the Browse Button on the right side corner of the window. Locate the folder where the photo is saved. Browse through the image files and select the photo you want to be displayed on your desktop. Click Open. You will be led back to the Display Properties window where your chosen image is set on preview. Choose if you want to have it stretched, tiled, or centered. Check the preview and see if the display orientation suits your preference. If the picture is small, you might want to choose a background color. This color will fill the space not occupied by the picture. Make sure to use a color that matches the tone or color of your background picture. When done, click the OK button.
* Right-click the desktop. Go to desktop and right-click anywhere on it. Select Properties. This method will lead you to the Display Properties window. Simply follow the instructions detailed above.
* Directly access the photo. This time you have to go to the folder where the photo is saved. For example, go to My Pictures. This will expand the My Pictures folder list. Double-click the folder from which you want to get the picture. Scan through the folder. To make your search much easier, set the pictures on filmstrip. Upon locating the photo, right-click the photo file and select “Set as Desktop Background.” This will automatically replace your existing background with the picture of your choice. Go to desktop to see if the photo is now your desktop background. If you want to change the default orientation, go to the Display Properties window and choose whether to stretch, tile, or center the picture.

If you don’t want to use the default desktop pictures or your own photos, you can try importing a wallpaper image from the Internet. There are several websites that offer free wallpapers. You only need to choose from their photos, which usually are arranged under different categories. Follow the instruction prompts. But usually you only have to follow the link provided. Right-click the photo and choose the “Set as Desktop Background” option or its equivalent. The photo will automatically be on your desktop.
