How To Create a New Usergroup in vBulletin

vBulletin is the premier publishing suite that allows you to manage your online community or forums with ease and efficiency. Now this is an application you can install on your computer and integrate to your forum site however; it is not free and does require you to dole out a couple hundred dollars or so one time. Anyway, this software is pretty far out since it allows you to fully customize your forums or message boards from access to parameters. One such feature that you will surely encounter during your creation and customization of your online community is the actual creation of the usergroups. Now, the software itself already has templates at the ready for this which you can use to create the usergroups off the bat but sometimes, you might find that certain aspects of the default template does not suit your needs. This being said, here are some steps on how you can create your new usergroup manually.

* Sign in. Open vBulletin and sign in to start your experience. To the left of your screen will be a menu and on it, usergroups, an option. There will be an arrow next to the label and clicking it will display the various options under it. Hence, click the arrow and select “Add New Usergroup” from the expanded menu.
* Set permissions. For every usergroup you create, you will need to set permissions for it. Basically, this is kind of a tedious job since every time you create a usergroup you will be required to set permissions manually. Fortunately, vBulletin allows you to set a standard template for any usergroup creation to follow. Since you are creating your first usergroup now, it would be smart to set the permission template you want to use for each and every usergroup you create. This will include setting if the passwords that each member of the group registers will expire after a given time period, deciding if the usergroup will be public or private, setting the viewing permissions, and setting other typical rules for a forum or usergroup.

* Name it. As soon as you select “Add New Usergroup”, you will be required to enter the name of the usergroup. This is basically the name that will be displayed publicly for this particular usergroup. You may add the description for the usergroup as well as a user title that will be used to label each user under the group.
* Configure usergroup further. While you can use the default settings of the forum, it would probably be better to configure these yourself with regards to the typical features such as polls, calendar, the “who’s online” view tool, and administrator functions and permissions.
* Review and save. After creating the new usergroup and setting all the rules of the group and forum, it is now time to save your creation and modifications. However, before doing that, you might want to review all your selections and settings first to see if everything you want in the forum has been modified to your liking. If everything appears to be in order, finalize the creation of the usergroup by saving it. Click on “save” to complete the process.

vBulletin is an easy to use yet powerful application that allows you to create and modify online forums with just a click of the mouse. Creating the usergroups for your forums is just one of the things you will encounter while using it. It is a good thing that you already know this part of the process, right?
