How To Use Skype on a PSP 3000

Handheld devices have really taken a quantum leap in the past few years. The development of compact transistors, microchips, circuit boards and LED screens has taken handheld game consoles to new, unprecedented levels.

Handheld game consoles like the PSP 3000 can serve as a game console, memory stick, GPS and web browser! Truly incredible!

One of the recent innovations to the PSP 3000 is that you can access Skype on it and make video calls anytime anywhere there is a Wi-Fi.

* Make an account. To get a Skype account, open the program then follow instructions on how to set up your account. You’ll need to provide basic information and contact details. You’ll also need to provide a password after you create your account. When providing information about your person, try to be as honest as possible. You will find that it’s easier to remember details if they are true. You need your details to match up because you could be denied to own an account because of inconsistencies.
* Get appropriate peripherals. You’ll need a headset to be able to hear the person you’re conversing with. Get a Sony PSP Slim&Lite Headset and the Remote Control 2000 and connect these peripherals to the PSP’s video out port. You need these peripherals to complete your calls.
* Make sure your PSP is updated. Memory limitations on older PSP models will not allow them to run the Skype program. Later models like the PSP 2000 and PSP 3000 have doubled their RAM capacity and are capable of running Skype. You also need to update your firmware as Skype only runs on version 3.90 and higher. These versions also have the Skype program bundled in so you don’t have to download it anywhere else.

# Make sure you have a Wi-Fi connection. Just like Skype on your computer, you’ll need Internet access to make calls on Skype.
# Access Skype on the PSP 3000. Make sure your WLAN switch is on. You can find the Skype icon in the Network section up front. After choosing the program you need to specify the connection you are using for the Internet. The program will ask you to log in to your account in Skype and you’re good to go. If this is the first time you’re accessing the Skype in your PSP 3000, your contacts will be immediately imported from your account.
# Navigate the software. Go to “Contacts” using the direction cross and hit Right or X button to check which of your contacts are online. You can hit Triangle for the contact options. The Skype program has been seamlessly integrated to the XMB interface and navigation should be no problem at all.
# Dial your contacts. Getting in touch with your contacts is as easy as can be by simply going to “Dial.” Always be observant of any area code, country code or access codes you may need to put in before dialing your contacts.
# Check for credits. You can check how much Skype credits you have to make calls by going to Tools > My Account > Skype Credit
