How To Upgrade a Windows Installer

You may have noticed that not all of the programs you usually install onto your PC are built with its own installer. In most cases, many programs bank on the stability and effectiveness of the Windows Installer you are currently using as a component of the Windows operating system used by your PC. However, with technology moving faster than you can actually count and applications becoming more and more demanding, your existing Windows Installer may soon pose problems as it may not be able to keep up with the newer applications you will be installing, those that require the higher versions of Windows Installer. This is the main reason why it is critical to keep the Windows Installer version up to date. Obviously, the secondary reasons will be faster installations and better performance. That said here are some of the things you will need to do to get your Windows Installer updated and upgraded.

* Find a newer version. The simplest way to do this is to scour the Internet for a newer redistributable package of the Windows Installer. Fortunately, though, you will not have to look far and wide as the latest version can easily be found on the Microsoft website. Click on the link provided and it will direct you to the homepage. Search the site using the conveniently integrated search bar for the latest Windows Installer relevant to the operating system you are using. As soon as you see a link leading to the download page of the latest package, click and follow the prompts to download it into your computer. Bear in mind that the file you will be downloading is an executable application file. However, since Microsoft is one of the global trusted sites, you won’t have to worry about malicious content having a free hand once you run the update.
* Install the redistributable package. As soon as the download completes, locate the file and double-click on it. This will initialize an installation wizard. Follow the instructions to start the installation. The process should take a few seconds, a minute max. Once the installation completes, you will be asked to reboot your PC. As soon as your PC boots back up, your job is done, and your operating system will sport the latest version of the Windows Installer.
* Keep it current. Installing the latest version of Windows Installer may be enough for now. However, since newer versions may soon pop up in a matter of days or weeks, you might want to keep the version you have updated. Don’t worry, you can allow Windows to do it for you automatically. Simply navigate the Windows Update section of your computer, which can be found in the Control Panel. Set Windows Update to download and install updates automatically. Apply the changes and you are good to go. Windows will now search, download, and install any updates, including those for Windows Installer, every time the updates are available and for as long as your computer is connected to the Internet.

Alternatively, you may also visit the Windows Update site if you want to download and install any available updates manually.
