There are also scam artists who pretend to be business entrepreneurs. Social networking does not require people to tell the truth. Many people pretend to be something or someone else. It is important to spot these social network abusers to be able to report them to the makers of the social network.

The way to spot social network abuse is to check the behavior of the computer user, as well as the content he receives. Here’s what you need to do.

* Observe some habits. It is important to observe your child regarding the time he puts in using the computer. Notice if he uses the computer more frequently than before. There are certain social network sites that may have instant messaging features. Instant messaging features are used by people because these cannot be tracked down. Their messages are also deleted after every use. It is important to check if your child goes online at a specific time of the day. Because of differences in time zones, your child may go online to chat with a person who lives in a different country. Observe if he uses the phone after using the computer. Inquire whom he is talking to. Some social network abusers send their phone number online. It is also important to ask him to open his mail in front of you. Some scam artists send inappropriate materials via mail.

* Occasionally check what he is doing. It is important to peek at what he is doing occasionally. Do not do this often. If you do, he may hide what he is doing from you. If he is doing his homework, he won’t hide it from you. If he suddenly presses keys on the computer, chances are he is hiding something from you. You can occasionally glance at what he is doing from a distance. Do not snoop from behind to catch what he is doing.
* Ask permission to check the files once in a while. It is important to ask permission before snooping around the files. If it is clean and free from social network abuse, then your child will freely show you his files.
* It is important to gain your child’s trust. There are other social network abusers who bully people online. It is important to have conversations with your child about how he is feeling. This will not only gain your child’s trust but it will also make you aware of your child’s feelings. It is also important to be in contact with your child. Add his friends as well. Make sure you know all the accounts that your child uses.
