How To Restore Desktop Icons

When you are constantly using your computer, it will come to a point where you will notice a change in your desktop icons. This is especially evident when other people are also using your computer system. Some may accidentally change your settings or specifically the way your desktop icons are set up. Some may even become missing or changed. But not to worry, there are ways on how you can restore Desktop Icons should you ever come across such problems. This scenario however will best apply to those using Windows XP.

* Getting Started. To begin you may prepare the things you will need for the process. The most important is having your computer ready. Once you have your computer up and running you may right click on your desktop and choose the “Properties” tab. The Properties tab will include the necessary options for you to choose from.
* Going to the Display Properties. This will take you to the “Display Properties” tab. This will then allow you to view a list from your computer screen. Once the list sets on your computer screen you may then click on the desktop tab and select the “Customize Desktop” option.
* Desktop Icons Selection. After getting to the necessary pages where you can select the proper options make sure to uncheck the icon list that will pop up from your desktop items. Then re-check the icon list when they show up again when you go back into the “Customized Desktop” tab.
* Using Windows Vista. If you are using windows Vista, the process in choosing your options will be different. Instead you may right click on the desktop then go to “Personalize Appearance.” Once you click on this, on the top left corner of the Personalization Window that will pop up a “Change Desktop” option will be available for you to click on. From there you can choose the icons that you have lost from your desktop and click on “Apply” or “OK” to complete the process.
* Special Icons. Other than your common desktop icons such as “my computer,” “my documents” etc., you may also lose special icons like the “user panel” or “control panel.” When this happens, you may restore them by going to the “Start” button on the bottom left of your keyboard. This is also the key with the windows button. Click on the “Control Panel” then on the left hand side choose “Change Desktop Icons.” From here you can start choosing the icons you would like to be added back on your desktop. Simply click on the boxes that you want to check.
Desktop Icons are very convenient because they give you easy access to the files and applications you commonly use. Hence, losing your desktop icons can be very frustrating at times but always remember that such scenarios will always have options that will help restore your Desktop Icons. Even when your recycle bin icon gets removed from your desktop, you can always get it back. Always consult your computer manufacturer or your computer manual to refer to more alternate options in the process mentioned.
