How To Use Google's Picasa Web Album

Photo sharing is very popular with people who are using several social network sites. While this will suffice for most people, others want to have their own web albums where more people, even those without social networking accounts view their exceptional photographs. One of the free applications that you can utilize is Google’s Picasa web album. With this application you have at least 1GB of storage space to upload your photographs. Below are some tips on how to use Picasa web album from Google.

* Download Picasa and use this as your image viewer. Go to the Google/Picasa website and download the latest version and install the program. View all the photographs stored on your computer hard drive. If you want to share photographs on the web, choose the photos that you deem are worth sharing. This will help you select the photographs in an organized fashion.
* Create different folders for different types of images. Picasa can be used to create and organize your photographs into folders and edit photographs.
* If you have an account with Google, sign in to Picasa web album using your Google user name and password. If you do not have a Google account yet, sign up for a free account first.
* Open the Picasa application on your computer and select the photographs you wish to share. Inside the Picasa application you will find a button to connect to Picasa Web Albums. Click the button and wait for the dialog box to pop up.
* From the Google page, you can access Picasa Web Albums from the left side bar. If you are already signed in to your GMail or your Blogger account a page will be presented to you asking if you would like to link your Google profile with Picasa Web Albums. You can choose to use your email username as your public name for the web album or use the suggested option if you prefer to remain anonymous. You will see the public profile address as well as the Picasa Web Album address for the option that you choose.

* Use the Upload button once you have selected the photos. You have the option to add the new photos to an existing album or create a new album. For a new user, use the option to create a new web album.
* Provide a name for the new album and give descriptions for photographs such as place, date and occasion when the photos were taken. These are optional features but quite helpful when you have several photographs uploaded. The 1GB storage space allowed per user in Picasa Web Albums can store up to four thousand photographs in wallpaper size.
* Choose one of three options or leave it at the default setting when asked about upload settings. The default is Optimized Large, which will allow viewers to print fairly-sized pictures.
* The next option to choose is for the visibility of the photos. If you want the public to view all the photos stored in your web album, choose the public option. If there are photos that you would like only a select few to view use the unlisted option.

Be cautious about the photographs that you upload which can be viewed by the public. Make sure that these photos are owned by you. Unlisted photographs are not password-protected therefore even if you only have a select few who will be able to view them, make sure that these photographs are safe and cannot be used to haunt you later.
