How To View PDF Files with Safari

Safari is such a popular web browser these days that many people use it as often as they use the pioneer, Internet Explorer. You can do many things with Safari other than simply browsing the web, one of which is to view PDF files. PDF is an acronym for portable document format, and is created by saving a document as a .pdf file. This is an easy way to view documents that you want to keep safe and uneditable or, in other words, in read-only format.

* Viewing a PDF file on Safari. There are more than one way to view a PDF file on the Safari web browser. One is straight from the source, such as a website. Sometimes, you’ll find that you’ve searched for a template and instead of finding a web page with the literature embedded in a page, that the needed research is in a PDF file. Click on the link and Safari will automatically prompt to have the PDF file downloaded. It will open on another Safari window and then once it is opened, you can opt to save it on your laptop for future reading.
* Downloading a file from your e-mail. Sometimes, you’ll find that you’ve received a PDF file through your e-mail. Open the e-mail and at the bottom of the page, where the attachments can be found, you’ll see the PDF logo with a link to click that says, “Download“. Click this and wait for your file to download. Once downloading is finished, you will find your document in your Downloads folder. Double click on the PDF file and then save it for reference. If you want to view the PDF file without having to download and open the actual document, you will find a link beside the “Download“ link that reads “View as HTML“. Click on this and the file will open on a tab or a new window so that you can first assess if the file is worth downloading and saving.
* No Adobe Acrobat. For users who don’t have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in their computers, viewing documents inline is a viable way. Inline means that the document will open in another window, as instructed above. There is another way to also view it inline, with more options.
* Inline or through reader? If you have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in your computer, you now have two viewing choices. Through inline or through the reader. To view via reader, open the application and find the Internet options. To get the document to automatically use the reader, click on the box that says “Display PDF in browser using Adobe Reader“. If you’d rather preview it first inline, then click on the box that says “Allow fast web view“.

Viewing a PDF document is easy and convenient for its users. It’s also a security measure so that sensitive documents are not edited or altered by a third party user. It also helps professionalize the look of a report or document with accompanying pictures.
