How To Uninstall Programs on Your PC

It is quite common for most computer users to install programs on their PC and forget about it. Yes, most people actually install a lot of stuff into their computers even if they won’t really use it or will only use it once. Worst of all, they actually forget to uninstall these unused programs. In the end, their hard drive will be packed to the brim thus, making the system slower and more fragmented.

One of the proper ways to maintain a computer is by regularly updating the programs installed. And, this includes uninstalling programs and applications that you don’t use anymore. Not only will it clear precious hard drive space, it will also allow your computer to perform much faster since it will not have to index through these programs anymore in order to find what it needs to find.

While most people know how to install a program, many of them do not know how to remove or uninstall one. Well, if you are one of these people, fear not. Today, you will finally learn the 2 most basic ways to uninstall a program.

* Use the uninstallation tool of the program. Most programs, when installed, include an uninstallation wizard that will allow any user to remove the particular program easily should he not find it useful anymore. The only thing is that most people do not know where this wizard is and what it looks like. In most cases, the uninstallation file of most programs will be labeled as “uninstall” and the name of the program. The file itself is usually located in the program folder. For instance, say you installed the online roleplaying game World of Warcraft, and you feel that it needs to be uninstalled as it takes too much out of your precious time. Well, the uninstallation tool can be located in the World of Warcraft folder. Simply navigate to the folder and look for any file named “uninstall”. Once you locate it, double click it. This should run the wizard that will allow you to uninstall the program.
As the uninstallation wizard runs, you will be given directions on how to proceed. For instance, some wizards may ask you if you want to save certain files associated with the program. At this point, it is up to you. To proceed with the removal of the program, follow the prompts and the process should take a few minutes to complete. As the uninstallation completes, you will probably have to reboot your PC to refresh your system. Upon restart, your PC will be completely free from any signs of the program.
* Use the Windows uninstallation wizard. If finding the uninstallation wizard of the particular program you want removed is tough for you, then you may want to consider having Windows do it for you. This can be done by opening Control Panel and selecting Add or Remove Programs. A window will open up with a list of installed programs. Look for the particular program you want to uninstall. Select it and click on Remove. This will prompt Windows to locate the uninstallation wizard for you. Follow the direction on the wizard to complete the removal process. Reboot as the uninstallation completes and you are done.
In case the program is not listed on the Windows uninstallation wizard, then you will probably have to delete the program manually. This is not recommended as doing it can disrupt your system. However, if you really want to proceed, simply locate the program’s main folder and delete it. The registry of the program may still be inside your system. If you want that removed, install a 3rd party registry cleaner and do a simple scan and delete function. CCleaner is one of the best registry cleaners you can use and also includes an integrated uninstallation function which will allow you to uninstall programs through it.
