How To Stop Vista's Startup Black Screen (TMM)

Are you using a desktop computer or a laptop running on Windows Vista operating system? If so, then you are familiar with that totally black screen that is displayed for a couple of seconds as your computer starts to boot. This black screen is called TMM or the Transient Multimon Manager.

The TMM is not a bug but is actually a feature. Well, at least that is how they call it in Microsoft. This feature is said to improve the user experience in terms of the display especially if you have multiple screens.

However, this “feature” can often cause delay in booting your PC, and even freezes the display forever. Before you ask for a technician to look into this problem for a resolution, try saving some money by troubleshooting it yourself. To remove the TMM and make the start-up of your computer much faster, here is what you should do:

* Get started. Look at your computer monitor and click the “Start” button on the lower left portion of the screen. You will be presented with a list of applications and directories.
* Start to manage your computer. On the list displayed on your monitor, look for “Computer” and point your mouse on it. Right click on the item and select “Manage” on the list of commands. A window with three columns named “Computer Management” will be presented.
* Explore the task scheduler. Look at the leftmost or first column and search for “Task Scheduler”. Click the small collapse arrow and you will see a sub-menu called “Task Scheduler Library”. Click the arrow further to see other menus.
* Disable TMM. Click on “Microsoft”, then, look for “Windows”. Select the arrow and you will be presented will a several more menu items that are arranged alphabetically. Locate the menu “Mobile PC”. These steps will present you a new content on the middle column. You will see an entry called “TMM”. Right-click and select “End”.
* Insert the installer CD. If the above steps do not address the issue, it may be essential for you to reinstall Microsoft Vista. While your computer is running, whether it was able to completely boot or if stays on the black screen, open the CD tray and insert the Windows Vista installer CD.
* Restart your computer. Press the restart button and let your computer reboot. It will prompt you to accomplish several fields in the window displayed such as the language to use. Answer the necessary fields and finally click on “Repair your computer”. This will present a new window that will ask you to where the installer is placed. Point the directory to your CD drive and click “Next”. Allow your computer to read the installer and fix the issue.
The entire resolution process will only take a few minutes. You can now use your Windows Vista computer without any trouble. Restart your computer after the above changes. If after doing the steps, you still encounter long boot time and screen freezing on the black screen, call a certified technician for assistance.
