How to Remove Green AV Pop Ups

The Green AV virus, which is also known as Green Antivirus 2009 or Green-Av, makes pop-ups appear on your computer. Green AV falsely informs you that you have a virus and then encourages you to buy their program. However, you will not fix your computer by purchasing this program, as it is a virus itself. You may also unintentionally expose your personal information, such as your credit card number. Fortunately, you can remove the virus yourself without purchasing any software.

Instructions

1. Restart your computer. Before Windows boots, press "F8" to activate the menu that asks you if you'd like to boot into safe mode. Press the "Down" arrow until you select the "Safe mode" option, and then press "Enter." Boot into safe mode.
2. Right-click on your taskbar, and then click "Task Manager." Select the "Processes" tab and scroll down. Look for any processes named "Green AV" in the alphabetical list. If it exists, highlight it and press the "End process" button.
3. Open "My Computer" and click "Tools." Click "Folder Options," and then select the "View" tab. Check the box labeled "Show hidden files and folders."
4. Delete Green AV by navigating to "C:Program FilesDocuments and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataGAV." Right-click the two files called "gav.exe" and "mgrdll.exe," and then click "Delete." Click the "Back" arrow, and then delete the "GAV" folder entirely the same way.
5. Click on the "Start" menu followed by "Run." Type "regedit" to open the registry editor.
6. Click "File" followed by "Export." Type a file name such as "backup," and save it to your desktop. This backs your registry up in case deleting any keys causes a serious problem.
7. Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionUninstallGreen AV " in the left-hand panel. Right-click the key, and then select "Delete" to remove it.
