How To Promote Your Personal Blog

Once you have your blog up and running, you want to promote it so that you get more visitors and traffic. There are many ways to promote your personal blog. The first appearance is one.

Many blog sites such as blogger.com, wordpress.com or typepress.com offer features that allow you to personalize your blog with graphics, images, fonts, counters, templates, gadgets and widgets to make your blog highly attractive. Remember that more features you use the slower your blog page would take to load. Find that balance where your blog loads fast and you won’t have to compromise on the elements that make your blog look good. Since the content of your blog will keep varying, try to vary the images and videos, if any, as well. But try to keep your background and graphics constant so that your visitors will feel familiar and comfortable with your personal blog and will keep revisiting, thus promoting your personal blog.

Networking to promote your personal blog
Once your personal blog has been set up to your satisfaction, you should begin linking your blog to others, preferably like-minded individuals with quality content that is related to your niche content. Once you begin the link, others will cross-link to your blog and so on creating a fine network that will begin to be self-sustaining and traffic will begin. Commenting (leaving your opinions and not merely saying “nice article” or “good one”) on other’s personal blogs will also encourage them to visit yours and in turn comment on your personal blog. This helps greatly in making new friends and promoting your personal blog.

Time and timing to help promote your personal blog

It does not matter how often you write. What is more important is your consistency. Make sure you have a schedule and stick to it. It is difficult for ordinary human beings to be flexible to change. Everyone finds a pattern and sticks to it. So if your posting is predictable, visitors will anticipate your posts and visit. If it is erratic and visitors find that on more than one visit there has not been a change in your blog, they may stop visiting it altogether.

Be patient. Do not expect a deluge of visitors overnight. Keep at whatever you’re doing to fill your personal blog and keep directing people you meet or speak with to your personal blog. Not only will they understand you better, but will in turn help promote your personal blog if they like it.

Technology to promote your personal blog

You can also use technology to work for you. Use bookmarks, RSS, links that open email clients, social bookmarking sites, gadgets, widgets, plugins and other software that help direct streams to your personal blog.

Netiquette to help promote your personal blog

Above all, learn netiquette. One of the worst things you can do is spam. Don’t get into prolonged and heated arguments with visitors who post your personal blog. Practice dignity. Others who read your interactions will appreciate you and they will promote your blog for you.
