How To Change the Default Email Address in Joomla!

Joomla! is a popular Content Management System (CMS) that provides you with easy to use web development and content management software. It is advantageous for both types of users, the one with little or no technical skills and the trained web developer. Joomla makes it easier for you to track all the contents uploaded to your website, from text, documents, photos, music, and videos, including those posted by users and visitors of the website. Joomla also offers a ‘Mail’ feature. One of the several functions of the Mail feature is to allow one to send auto responses to members of the website. In this article, we will discuss how to change the default email address in Joomla.

1. Log in to your own Joomla! website. Once you are logged in, click on the icon with a little screw driver. This icon is labeled ‘Global Configuration’. It will be on the lower right hand portion of all the ‘Control Panel’ icons.
2. Locate the ‘Mail’ tab. When you open ‘Global Configuration’ you will see ten tabs namely ‘Site’, ‘Locale’, ‘Content’, ‘Database’, ‘Server’, ‘Metadata’, ‘Mail’, ‘Cache’, ‘Statistics’ and ‘SEO’. Click on the seventh tab labeled ‘Mail’.
3. Change the email address written under the ‘Mail From’ field. When you open the ‘Mail’ tab, there will be eight fields displayed. First field is ‘Mailer’ where you can choose the mailer that will be used, and the choices are ‘PHP Mail Function’, ‘Sendmail’ or ‘SMTP Server’. The ‘Mail From’ field will be the email address shown as the sender, the ‘From Name’ field will be the name that will be shown as the sender, the ‘Sendmail Path’ field indicates the directory of the Mail server, the ‘SMTP Auth’ field is where you will specify if your host requires SMTP Authentication, the ‘SMTP User’ field is where you will indicate the username if SMTP Authentication is required, the ‘SMTP Pass’ is where the SMTP Authentication password will be indicated, and ‘SMTP Host’ field will be your website host. The ‘Mail From’ field is the one you need to change.
4. Click ‘Save’ once you are done changing the default email address. The new email address will not take effect unless you save it. Click on the ‘Save’ button from the toolbar to save the changes that you have made.

Just follow the steps outlined above and you will be able to change the default email address in Joomla! In case you encounter difficulties, don’t forget to check with your System Administrator or Web Master.
