How Can I Physically Secure My PC Tower in My Home?

Theft from a computer is usually a problem of stolen information from the computer. As a result, there are several programs available that are designed to prevent the theft of information in the form of firewalls, antivirus software and anti-spyware. While protecting information is important, it is not the only theft possible for a computer. A thief can also physically steal the computer. Securing the computer tower physically will prevent thefts by making the computer a difficult and risky item to steal.

Instructions

1. Make backup files of every important file on the computer. In case the worst happens and the computer is stolen or accessed, backup files prevent losing the important information.

2. Store backup files in a separate location. Since backup files are usually in a small format, such as CDs or flash drives, they fit in most any location. Hide these backup files somewhere safe, such as in a home safe, a dresser drawer or even under the couch. The hiding place is personal preference, but keep it away from the computer.

3. Get a security case for the computer tower. A security case for a PC is an item designed to make it difficult to steal. It adds extra weight to the computer tower and secures it to the desk. Depending on the type of security case, the way it secures the computer tower will differ. Some securing methods include adhesives made to hold the tower to a desk and others include chains that are similar to a bike chain
